In case anyone is wondering why no updates -well nothing has happened for a month because my welder & air compressor both broke. The spare part for the compressor arrived today and I bought a replacement welder on Wednesday so should be able to start work again soon.
My faithfull SIP Migmate 100 just stopped working and I was shocked to find that a new equivalent would be about £230 and have therefore been trawling the small ads and net for the last few weeks looking for a replacement.
I found an SIP Handymate gasless one for £75 but it was a 190 mile journey to pick it up (East Kilbride to Dundee). It only cost £15 petrol in the faithful Swift tho : ) however when I tried the machine out a was disappointed to find that, although it worked fine on some scrap metal, it only has 2 positions (high or low) and no wire speed control which I find a bit worrying as my old machine had 6 switches plus wire speed dial and I used all of them regularly. I'm not sure about using this on the car so I am going to buy another 2nd hand one for £70 tomorrow (Clarke 100en) and this one is only 15 miles from my home. I'll put some random pics meantime. This setback has really disrupted things and I've sort of lost my way with everything. I have however used the time to get my Hillman Imp pick up ready for moving to the barn. This car has been in a lock up for 21 years and is in horrendous condition.
before the welder packed in I was trial fitting the RHS outer sill but it was about 1cm too long at the rear end.....
so I cut the return lip off which will then be welded back on after grinding/cutting the excess metal off
a nice shot of the old beast in the spacious barn with my phat Polo hiding behind it
the Hillman Imp body shell. you thot the Jag was bad? this is the shell on its side at RHS rear wheelarch area
and this is the LHS rear wheelarch - lovely : - /
